Faith Klein bio

Faith was born in Newark, New Jersey on May 1, 1934 and spent her childhood with her brother and best friend, Lenny Nachman, in Plainfield, New Jersey and on her grandparents’ farm in Carmel, New Jersey.

She proudly graduated in 1956 from Vassar College with a Bachelor’s degree in English and continued her education with a Masters Degree from Boston University in 1957.

Faith married the love of her life, Jack Klein, of nearby Cranford, New Jersey on December 21, 1958.

They lived briefly in Chicago and Ohio before settling in Annandale, Virginia in 1965, down the street from her beloved brother Lenny, sister-in-law Mimi, and their five children. Faith lived in the same Annandale home where she raised her family until her death.

Faith was an active member of her Annandale community. She found great joy volunteering as a poll worker and serving as an usher and occasional on-stage extra at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts. She spearheaded many groups related to her interests including book clubs, bridge groups, tennis games, shell clubs, and genealogy research. Beth El Congregation was always a primary focus of her life, and she participated in many leadership roles, maintained the Genealogy Library in Jack’s honor, and performed in the Sisterhood performances through the years.

One of Faith’s greatest joys was spending every summer on the beach in Nags Head, North Carolina. She collected shells, took beach walks with her beloved schnauzers, children and grandchildren, and liked to end the day with a glass of chardonnay while watching the sunset.

She is survived by her children, Holly Newcombe (Keith) and Chris Klein (Nita Ann) and grandchildren, Grace Klein, Frances Klein, and Mason Newcombe. Her beloved husband, Jack Klein, and daughter, Robin Klein, predeceased her.

Faith was an avid researcher and teacher of genealogy. She established the Jack Klein Memorial Library in 1987 and spent many years contributing to its growth. If you would like to make a donation in honor of her memory, donations may be made to the Jack and Faith Klein Memorial Library of Jewish Genealogy and History located at Beth El Hebrew Congregation 3830 Seminary Rd Alexandria VA 22304
