NVBA Mentorship Program
The NVBA has established a mentorship program to match experienced players willing to serve as mentors with less experienced players seeking to improve their game. If you're an NVBA member who is interested in either serving as a mentor or being matched with a mentor, just send an email to mentors@nvba.org.
After we match you up, it's up to you and your mentor/mentee to agree on your goals and expectations for the partnership. We recommend at least the following:
- Play together face to face at a local club or tournament at least once a month for at least six months.
- Make time to discuss your bidding and play agreements before your first game together.
- Make time to discuss the hands after each time you play.
- Make time to answer other bridge-related questions between sessions.
Some other guidelines:
- There is no charge for this. Mentors and mentees are expected to pay their own entry fees.
- If your partnership isn't working out, you can end it at any time for any reason with no hard feelings. If this happens, please let us know by sending an email to mentors@nvba.org, and indicate whether you are looking for another match.
- If your partnership is working so well that you want to continue for longer than six months, that's great! Please also send an email to mentors@nvba.org to let us know about this. We love to hear about success.
- We welcome any other feedback and suggestions at any time, to the same email address.
- There's no hard and fast rule for who can be a mentor versus a mentee. We expect that in most cases, mentors will be life masters, and mentees will be non-life masters. If you're looking for something other than this, let us know that when you sign up.
- Last but not least, please be pleasant, respectful, and patient with your partner, and above all, have fun!
