Fairfax resident Shuba Dey died on March 5th 2024 in Calcutta, India after a prolonged illness. Shuba was born in Calcutta, India in 1958. He did his Masters in Mathematics and migrated to the USA in the 1980’s. Shuba moved to Fairfax in 2003 from Durham, NC where he was very active in the bridge circuit. He recently moved back to Calcutta, India to be with his family.

He had a successful partnership with his longtime bridge partner, Jay Kelkar, in northern VA. Jay said “Shuba was a thorough gentleman at the bridge table just as in real life. For him, the game was more important than winning. I learned a lot about bridge etiquettes from him. He was a serious student of the game and we grew our partnership with positive feedback about each other’s play after each session. He was a close family friend who had a very positive influence on my children.” Shuba was preceded in his death by his two brothers and parents. He has a niece in UK.
